*GREENING SMALL SPACES*

I  love plants and seeing new ways to display them. Here is a creative way to use small pot pants to fill up a small space. It's also a very inexpensive vertical garden! I came across this outside an Asian restaurant on busy Fitzroy St in Melbourne Australia's trendy suburb of St Kilda. 

Here they have chosen three plants and repeated them across the full row for effect. You could also grow a wall of strawberries or plant your choice of herbs. I love this idea to green a balcony or small courtyard. 

The same effect can be created by just using shelves and placing pots on top of the shelf. Using one type of pot and selecting the same plant or a small number of plants and repeating them will create a beautiful display.

Me gustan las plantas y nuevas maneras de combinarlas. Aquí se puede ver una manera muy creativa de usar macetas para decorar una pared.  Es un jardín vertical económico!  Lo descubrí en un Restaurante Asiático de Fitzroy St en el barrio de moda  melbourniense de St. Kilda.

Han elegido tres plantas distintas y han utilizado el truco de la repetición para dar un bonito efecto visual. Se puede hacer con fresas por ejemplo  o cualquier otra planta que elijamos.  Me encanta esta idea  para un balcón o un pequeño jardín.

El mismo efecto puede ser creado con estanterías y colocando las macetas de la misma forma.

En el año 2004 me fui a vivir  a Holanda para realizar unas prácticas y la suerte hizo que conociera a Sara. Una chica de Australiana que estaba también trabajando ahí. Estábamos nadando en un mar de Erasmus dónde lo único que hacían era salir de fiesta. Las 2 que no podíamos seguir su ritmo porque nos levantábamos muy pronto por la mañana creamos nuestro propio espacio. Y nuestra amistad aún sigue viva. Ella más o menos cada 2 años ha venido a Europa y nos hemos encontrado en algún  rincón. Yo aún tengo mi asignatura pendiente...El otro día le dije que se instalara el what's app (ahí se ve que no lo utilizan). Y empezamos a hablar. No se como empezó pero finalmente la invité  a que participara en mi blog. Y de hecho me gustaría hacerlo también en Inglés.

Ella, como siempre muy resolutiva hoy ya me ha mandado propuestas. Y mi sorpresa fue cuando vi una foto. Una foto de unos paraguas que tomo en Melbourne esta semana (foto de abajo) . Yo tome una muy similar en la Plaza del Sol la semana pasada (foto de arriba). La diferencia. Para mi fue un preámbulo de las fiestas de Gracia, el calor, el verano.. Para ella un toque de color que le hizo cambiar el humor en un día lluvioso y gris del invierno de Melbourne. Parece ser que estas dos Sagitario viviendo en dos puntas del mundo opuestas tenemos más en común de lo que pensamos. :-)

Lidia and I met while living in The Netherlands. After some initial communication problems and lots of sign language and laughing, we discovered we had loads in common. Our social Sagittarius natures, our love of adventure and travel and joy of discovering new, interesting things. We became great friends and have stayed in touch ever since. I've visited Lidia many times in Europe and have stayed with her family in her home village of Fonteta - an adorable, quaint little town. I wouldn't have believed people still lived there if I was just passing through on my own! It's like stepping back in time, but real  are still living there. It amazed me.

Lidia and I got talking about our lives recently and blogging came up. It seems we also have this in common, so Lidia invited me to post on this blog. My first post is an interesting coincidence. At the time I had no idea Lidia had spotted the exact same umbrella installation last week in Barcelona. The only difference is that here in Melbourne we are actually in need of these umbrellas right now! It's winter, and it's cold and rainy.

I was walking along on a cold, grey and rainy day in Melbourne and I came across this spectacular rainbow of colour. Just beautiful! It instantly brightened up my mood. It was installed inside a shopping centre in the heart of Melbourne's CBD on 'Collins St' - the street known for it's great shopping across Australia.  

Beauty doesn't have to be an expensive piece of art hanging on a wall inside a gallery. It's all around us if we open our eyes and minds to it. Just like these umbrellas suspended in mid air.  Beautifully ordinary.
